Vonovia Ruhrstadion

In the middle of the German city of Bochum lies the Vonovia Ruhrstadion, the home ground of VfL Bochum. Since 1911, the stadium (formerly known as rewirpowerSTADION and Ruhrstadion) has served as the home of the Bochum club. The stadium has a capacity of 26,000 spectators: 14,000 seats compared to 11,600 standing places. This makes a Bochum home match a unique football experience.

History of the Vonovia Ruhrstadion

It is 1911 when the stadium is inaugurated. It is not until 1971 that VfL Bochum manages to play its first Bundesliga match. With a 1-0 win in front of the home crowd, VfL Bochum left the pitch. In 2011, the FIFA Women's World Cup was played here, where the ladies of Japan won the cup.
