Camp Nou is being renovated!

Camp Nou – also referred to as Nou Camp – has a capacity of 99,354. Although it already is the largest stadium in Spain and in Europe, the stadium is still being renovated and expanded. The stadium will be enlarged to accommodate over 105,000 fans. It will feature a new roof top for shelter. The outside of the stadium will receive the biggest transformation of all: it is planned to be enclosed entirely by a brightly multi-coloured mosaic outer skin in the club colours, which will glow on match nights.

Also, the area surrounding the stadium will be regenerated. Camp Nou’s project is in the hands of English architect Norman Foster. The renewal of the stadium isn’t his first big project: he is also the designer of the new Wembley stadium, the London Millennium Tower, the Vivaldi Tower in Amsterdam and the Torre de Collserola in Barcelona.

The huge project will be finished in 2021 and will cost a total amount of 660 million euros.

Estadi Johan Cruyff

The total price of 660 million euros includes the construction of the new Palau Blaugrana – home arena to the basketball, handball, roller hockey and futsal of FC Barcelona – and the Estadi Johan Cruyff. The Johan Cruyff Stadium was opened last Tuesday and is the home base of Barça B and Barça Women. The new complex is dedicated to Johan Cruyff, who established a clear philosophy at Barcelona and is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Last Monday, 26 August, the Johan Cruyff statue was unveiled at Camp Nou.

Camp Nou is also famous because of its museum, the Museu Josep Lluíz Núñez. The museum first opened in 1984. It is the most visited museum of Barcelona and Catalonia, attracting 1.2 million visitors each year. It is even more popular than the famous Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
