Carabao Cup round four draw

Each year every English club within the top four levels of the English football league system competes in the League Cup, also known as Carabao Cup.

The first round of this year’s League Cup started Tuesday 6 August. This round is always played between all teams from League Two, League One and the English Championship – except for the clubs that play European football.

The remaining Premier League teams enter at the second round, while the other remaining teams involved in European competition have received a ticket directly to the third round. Matches in all rounds are single-legged, without replay.

Yesterday evening after the final matches of round three were played, the draw for the fourth round of the League Cup took place. Manchester United were among them, after escaping a huge humiliation at Old Trafford. They couldn’t defeat League One club Rochdale within 90 minutes, but did so after a penalty shootout.

West Ham United were humiliated: they got knocked out by a League One club after getting defeated 4-0 by Oxford United.

Tottenham Hotspur, last season’s Champions League finalist, couldn’t win against Colchester United, a 4th division team. After an embarrassing penalty shootout, Colchester United got the best and made it to fourth round of the Carabao Cup. In the second round, they had already defeated Premier League club Crystal Palace.

The remaining EFL-fixtures threw up little surprises; Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal will continue on to the next round.
